I looked through the DT, honestly I prefer O-L. The UI is better and we aren’t beholden to someone else changing up the functionality or layout of the site as we are here and would be at DT. I know DT’s dev team has been receptive in the past and took note of the migration, but there’s something to be said for a forum run by its users. The main issue with the O-L site is scaling it in the future and paying for a host if it outgrows the local server jminer has it on for the time being. I’d be fine with banner ads to pay for it. Shit, I’d even click em.

I’ve been on forums that were self-run run by gun nuts with a lot more users and complexity than Oppo. They’ve been going strong for well over a decade. Jminer seems a lot more competent than those guys. I don’t really have a concern with running our own site.

I appreciate that Oppo has been a jumping off point for people’s blogging careers, and that DT offers more views and a more professional appearance. I think we should use DT like we use to use Jalopnik, and keep O-L our home base.
